The general working plan for Healthcare Reform in-process before Congress now ....
WIFM? What's In it For Me?
78 Million old folks on Medicare ==> NO CHANGE FOR OLDSTERS
122 Million people Employer Provide Coverage ==> Better Consumer Protections - Portability, No Recisions, No Lifetime Caps, Minimum Standards for Basic Coverage
15 Million people Earning Less Than 133% of Poverty Line ==> Expanded Medicaid Coverage
57 Million people Earning 133% to 300% of Poverty Line ==> Subsidized Coverage w/ Consumer Protections, of this group only 8.7 Million Folks will likely get subsidized PUBLIC OPTION
28.8 Million people Earning more than 300% of Poverty Line ==> Unsubsidized Coverage w/ Consumer Protections, of this group only 3.8 Million Folks will likely get unsubsidized PUBLIC OPTION
78 + 122 + 57 + 28.8 = 285.8 Million Americans
3.8 + 8.7 = 12.5 Million folks will likely use the PUBLIC OPTION
12.5 / 285.8 = 4.4% of American are estimated to use the PUBLIC OPTION , hardly a government take-over of health care insurance. Supporting the common folk, setting reasonable standards on consumer fairness... that's absolutely what this battle is all about.
