Lil Jeffy Frederick - Fails SPEECH 101

cross-posted from Blue Commonwealth

Speaking before the Virginia General Assembly: Republican Party of Virginia Chairman, and House of Delegate member, Jeff Frederick (R-52nd), attacks Charles Darwin on his birthday, saying Darwin's theories were "used by atheists to explain away the belief in God." Fact-based evidence that Jeffy, probably didn't do well in high school biology and clearly avoided advanced science classes, while pursing degrees in poli-sci and economics, at Oxford College and Emory University. Most likely he skipped out on SPEECH 101 - Public Speaking, Doh!

The news of his recent resignation from his House seat, may help reduce the media interest in "all things silly" from this fading RPV star. And all Virginians can hope that more moderate and rational Virginia Republicans, will provide some badly needed, adult supervision, in the re-Tooling process of their party's leadership team. God knows... Jeffy could use some more time to polish his public speaking skills, and develop a basic scientific knowledge of the natural world. Seems he got through high school without passing the Virginia SOL's. Maybe he can pick up a course or two in freshman English and Biology at NOVA CC? I hear Dr. Jill Biden will be teaching English at NOVA. She'd love to help an enthusiastic young man like Jeffy. Or maybe not. My educated guess is that Natural Selection will take care of Jeffy's political future in the RPV.

Concerned that Virginia will soon be out of the national comedy spotlight? Not to worry... we can still look to another Virginia Republican for our entertainment, another RPV tool , U.S. Rep. Eric "NoWe" Cantor (R-7th)

Party On , RPV!

Happy 200th Birthday, Charles Darwin!

Charles Robert Darwin, FRS
At the age of 51
Darwin had just published On the Origin of Species.

Born, February 12, 1809
Died,
April 19, 1882

2009 - Two hundred years later... We are still pushing back on the voices of endemic ignorance and tribal superstition, that deny the fundamental science of evolutionary biology. The fight for scientific thinking never ends.
Conclusion

".... As all the living forms of life are the lineal descendants of those which lived long before the Cambrian epoch, we may feel certain that the ordinary succession by generation has never once been broken, and that no cataclysm has desolated the whole world. Hence we may look with some confidence to a secure future of great length. And as natural selection works solely by and for the good of each being, all corporeal and mental endowments will tend to progress toward perfection.

It is interesting to contemplate a tangled bank, clothed with many plants of many kinds, with birds singing on the bushes, with various insects flitting about, and with worms crawling through the damp earth, and to reflect that these elaborately constructed forms, so different from each other, and dependent upon each other in so complex a manner, have all been produced by laws acting around us. These laws, taken in the largest sense, being Growth with Reproduction; Inheritance which is almost implied by reproduction; Variability from the indirect and direct action of the conditions of life, and from use and disuse: a Ratio of Increase so high as to lead to a Struggle for Life, and as a consequence to Natural Selection, entailing Divergence of Character and the Extinction of less- improved forms.

Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly follows. There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that, while this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved."

Charles Darwin, On the Origin of Species, 1859
